Hi Skaters,

Here is an opportunity for you to be involved in a fantastic mural project that will be a make Skatin’ Place in Golden Gate Park an actual art piece in San Francisco!!!

There will be a mural placed inside the glide lane of the rink. Aimee “White Chocolate” Stevland has been commissioned to do the work involved in creating this mural.  We have been working with Susan Sun, Nathan Tinclair and others with S.F. Rec and Parks on this and now it’s time to get your input.

The mural idea came out of another idea that I proposed which was to place a Black Lives Matter banner along JFK Drive in the park.  I was thinking we could do it with the 150th birthday of Golden Gate Park.  Well Covid 19 squashed all that.

I was asked if I wanted to do the BLM manner at Skatin’ Place. We did that just a few weeks before in chalk and everyone participated.  However I felt this was an opportunity to showcase the rinks history with beautiful colors and shapes and still convey that message.
Drawing has never been my thang, so I asked David if he could come up with something. David’s images looked great, but too many issues with logos and intricate designs Aimee stepped in and came up designs are more in line with what can be approved.

As stated earlier, now is the time for you to put your ideas and energy into this effort.  There will be a meeting and presentation at Skatin’ Place. 6th Ave. and JFK Drive on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021 at 4:30 P.M. You will be able to meet the people behind this effort and add your suggestions as to what a mural here should look like. Please plan to be there and please help spread the word. You can e-mail me anytime at Sk8GodFather@earthlink.net
